Today’s card of the day is a 1957 Topps card of Ronnie Knox. Remarkably, there are four Bears quarterbacks in the 1957 Topps set, and Knox is one of them. Ed Brown was the starter for most of the season; Brown was backed up by Zeke Bratkowski, George Blanda, and Knox.
Knox played in one game in 1957, and it turned out to be the only action of his NFL career. He did not throw a pass or generate any other stats in the game. For his single game in the NFL, he has a place on the Gallery’s Cups of Coffee page.
Knox had more success in the CFL, where he played in 1956, 1958, and 1959. In 1958, with the Toronto Argonauts, he completed 116 of 193 passes, a 60% completion rate–not bad at the time. His performance earned him spots on two cards the following year: a 1959 Topps CFL card, and a 1959 Wheaties CFL card.
Cflapedia.com has an interesting account of Knox’s football career and life afterward.
