Larry Vargo, who played five seasons in the NFL, is celebrating his 85th birthday today. Vargo played for the Detroit Lions in 1962 and 1963, the Minnesota Vikings in 1964 and 1965, and the New York Giants in 1966. At various times during his career, Vargo played offensive end, defensive back, and linebacker.
Vargo never appeared on a football card, but he did appear on a few Coke Caps. This is one of them: a 1966 Giants Coke Cap, “G” variation. There is also a “C” variation, which is numbered C28 rather than G28. I don’t know why Coke produced two variations of the 1966 Giants Caps–maybe one of my readers knows?
You can see the full set of 1966 Giants “G” Coke Caps in the Gallery.
Happy birthday, Mr. Vargo!
I like the Coke caps, but I would imagine that they’re a real pain to store.
