Happy 90th birthday to Lenny Moore! Moore played halfback and flanker for the Baltimore Colts from 1956 to 1967. He made the Pro Bowl 7 times, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1975. The Colts retired his jersey number, 24, in 1968. (See the Gallery’s retired numbers page for the retired numbers of all NFL teams.)
Moore’s 1957 Topps card is one of the scarcer high number cards in the set. 1957 was Moore’s second season, and he led the NFL with 1175 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns. The card shows Moore wearing number 36, though he wore 24 throughout his career. Apparently, the photo was taken before the 1956 season; you can see the original black-and-white image here.
Moore is still the only NFL player to have scored at least 40 touchdowns rushing and 40 touchdowns receiving in his career. (He had 63 and 48, respectively.) Not surprisingly, he appears on a lot of cards in the Vintage Football Card Gallery.
