Today’s card of the day is Bob Boyd’s 1957 Los Angeles Rams Team Issue card. I love the image! The team issue photos of the 1950s often pictured players in exaggerated action shots, and this is a great example.
Boyd played wide receiver for eight years with the Rams, from 1950 to 1957. His best year was 1954, when he gained 1212 yards receiving–in a twelve-game season–and was voted First-Team All-Pro.
Before his pro career, Boyd was a multi-sport athlete at Loyola Marymount. In addition to football, Boyd starred in track and was a member of the boxing team. In 1950, he was the NCAA National Champion in the 100-yard dash, with a time of 9.8 seconds. He was inducted into the Loyola Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame in 1986.
Boyd also appeared on numerous other football cards. You can see them all in the Gallery.
