Billy Masters, who played tight end for ten seasons in the AFL and NFL, is celebrating his 80th birthday today. Masters played three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, five with the Denver Broncos, and two with the Kansas City Chiefs. His best year, stats-wise, was 1971, when he gained 453 yards from scrimmage for the Broncos. None of his teams made the playoffs, unfortunately.
Today’s football card of the day is Masters’s 1973 Topps card. This is his rookie card, issued in his sixth year as a pro. The card is one of about two hundred rookie cards in the 1973 Topps set–a large number because the set was so much larger than its predecessors.
Masters also appeared on a 1972 Sunoco Stamp and a couple of team issue photos that I haven’t yet added to the Gallery.
Happy birthday, Mr. Masters!
