Happy 80th birthday to Gene Washington! Washington played wide receiver from 1967 to 1972 for the Minnesota Vikings, and in 1973 for the Denver Broncos. He played in Super Bowl IV (which the Vikings lost to the Kansas City Chiefs), and he made the Pro Bowl in 1969 and 1970. Washington played college football at Michigan State, and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Washington also starred in track at Michigan State. In 1965, he was the NCAA indoor champion in the 60-yard hurdles. (Interestingly, Earl McCullouch was the 1967 champion, and Richmond Flowers was the 1968 champ. Both McCullouch and Flowers also played in the NFL.)
Today’s card of the day is Washington’s 1971 Kellogg’s card. He appeared on a few other cards, as well. You can see all of them in the Gallery.
