Happy 80th birthday to Bob Neff! Neff was an original Miami Dolphin; he played defensive back and returned kicks and punts for the Dolphins from 1966 to 1968. Remarkably, according to pro-football-reference.com, he had kickoff returns of 90 and 95 yards, but he didn’t score a touchdown.
Today’s card of the day is Neff’s 1967 Royal Castle Dolphins card. This set of cards was issued by Royal Castle restaurants in the Miami area–two per week during the 1967 season, according to the backs. Neff’s card is one of the easier cards in the set to find, though it is by no means plentiful. The eleven short prints in the set are extremely scarce; I have seen only one or two of most of them.
As far as I know, this is Neff’s only appearance on a card. He never appeared in a regular issue set.
You can see the full set of 1967 Royal Castle Dolphins cards in the Gallery.
I love all of these different (i.e. new to me) sets that I see on your blog.
