Happy 85th birthday to Bill Baird! Baird played defensive back for the New York Jets in the American Football League from 1963 to 1969. He was a starter in Super Bowl III, the Jets’ win against the NFL’s Baltimore Colts after the 1968 season.
At times during his career, Baird also returned punts and kickoffs. In 1963, his rookie season, he had the AFL’s longest punt return, 93 yards.
Today’s card of the day is Baird’s rookie card, a 1965 Topps “tallboy.” He also appeared on a 1967 Topps card and 1965 and 1966 Coke Caps.
There is a nice “Where Are They Now?” interview with Baird on the Jets web site.
