Today’s card of the day is a 1964 Topps card of Dan Ficca. Ficca played guard for five seasons in the American Football League: one for the Oakland Raiders and four for the New York Jets. This was his only appearance on a regular issue card, and he also appeared on a couple of Jets team issue photos. His 1964 Topps card is one of the short prints in the set.
There is an entertaining 2020 Where Are They Now interview with Ficca on the Jets web site. In the article, Ficca says that after football he sold beer for 15 years for the Genesee Brewing Company, and after that he worked 15 years for International Paper. He is now retired and has a serious Lego hobby.
Ficca is celebrating his 85th birthday today. Happy birthday, Mr. Ficca!
It’s pretty cool that someone that old, and who played professional football, is into LEGO’s.
