Today’s card of the day is a 1960 7-Eleven Dallas Texans card of Ray Collins. Collins was a defensive tackle for a total of eight seasons in the NFL, CFL, and AFL. He played from 1950 to 1952 for the San Francisco 49ers, then a year each for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, New York Giants, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Collins was then out of football for four seasons before signing with the AFL’s Dallas Texans in 1960. He played two seasons for the Texans before calling it a career.
Collins’s card is one of ten in the 1960 7-Eleven Texans set. The cards are scarce in any condition; I seldom see them offered for sale. Collins’s card is the only one that does not have DALLAS TEXANS printed on the front–not technically an error, but most likely unintended. It’s one of several cards on the Gallery’s “Not Like the Others” page.
Collins also appeared on a couple of regular issue cards. You can see them in the Gallery.
