The picture below shows how 1949 Leaf football cards were arranged on uncut sheets. As a model, I used a photo of a real uncut sheet that appeared in an eBay auction. The sheet contains four complete sets of 49 cards, with each quadrant of the sheet containing a full set.

The following table shows how the cards on the sheet were arranged by number. Though there are only 49 cards in the set, the cards are numbered up to 150. My guess is that the company left gaps between the numbers to trick kids into thinking there were more cards in the set to purchase.

The 1949 Leaf football card set is a subset of the 1948 Leaf set, but with the card backs and numbers changed. Whereas the 1948 set contains both NFL and college players, the 1949 set contains only NFL players.

There are 98 cards in the 1948 Leaf set, and I believe that they were printed on two sheets similar to this one: the first containing cards 1-49, and the second containing cards 50-98. The front of the first sheet of 1948 Leaf cards resembled this 1949 sheet. It appears that, in 1949, Leaf started with the first sheet of 1948 cards, replaced the cards of college players with NFL players from the second 1948 sheet, and changed the backs of the cards.
