Happy 70th birthday to Brian Baschnagel! Baschnagel was a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears from 1976 to 1984. He was the Bears’ leading receiver in 1979, with 452 yards. (The Bears, understandably, focused more on their running game during Baschnagel’s career, with Walter Payton being a perennial 1200-plus-yard rusher.)
Today’s card of the day is Baschnagel’s rookie card, a 1977 Topps. He is wearing number 47 because, according to Wikipedia, he started the 1976 season as a defensive back. It wasn’t long before the Bears moved him to wide receiver, and he wore number 84 for the rest of his career.
