Happy 85th birthday to Billy Shaw! Shaw played guard for the Buffalo Bills from 1961 to 1969. He played on the Bills teams that won the AFL Championship in 1964 and 1965, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999. He is the only member of the Hall of Fame who never played in the NFL.
Pictured here is Shaw’s 1967 Topps Milton Bradley card. The card, which is nearly identical to his 1967 Topps regular issue card, was part of a Milton Bradley Game called “Win-A-Card.” The easiest way to spot a Win-A-Card football card is that it will have a brown strip along the top or bottom edge. The brown strip is a slice of a baseball card that was also part of the game, and that was adjacent to the football card on the uncut sheet.
You can read the details about the Win-A-Card game in an article in my old blog, and you can see the full set of Milton Bradley football cards in the Gallery. You can find numerous other oddball sets in the Gallery, as well.
