Happy 85th birthday to Pettis Norman! Norman played tight end for the Dallas Cowboys from 1962 to 1970, and for the Chicago Bears from 1971 to 1973. He had 183 career catches for 2492 yards, and 23 rushes for 198 yards–an impressive 8.6 yards per carry. Norman played in one Super Bowl, Dallas’s 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V.
Norman stayed busy after retiring from football, with involvement in the civil rights movement, various business ventures, and a stint as a color commentator for the World Football League. His Wikipedia page is an interesting read.
Today’s card of the day is Norman’s rookie card, from the 1964 Philadelphia set. He also appeared on a few other cards and stamps, which you can see in the Gallery.
