1979 Ohio State Greats 1916-1965 Football Cards
There are two 1979 "Ohio State Greats" playing card decks, and the two together could be considered a single set. According to a title card in one of the decks, the cards were called Ohio State All-Americans and National Football Hall of Famers, quite an unwieldy title. Beckett considers the two decks separate sets called "1979 Ohio State Greats 1916-1965" and "1979 Ohio State Greats 1966-1978," so that's how I listed them in the Gallery. The two decks I have came together in a generic gray box.
The 1916-1965 deck contains some--but far from all--of the Ohio State players who were named All-Americans during that period. The cards in this deck have a red (or, more precisely, "scarlet") frame around the back. Players who were All-Americans in multiple years appear on multiple cards, one for each year. Wes Fesler, for instance, has three cards in the deck, for 1928, 1929, and 1930. This is unfortunate, because not all All-Americans made it into the deck, and limiting cards to one per player would have accommodated more players. One omission, for example, is Bob White, a 1958 All-American who finished fourth in Heisman voting.
Each card front displays a big Ohio State "O" with a small black-and-white image of a player in the center. The small player images are unfortunate, too: The other playing cards in the Gallery all have much larger pictures of the players.
You can see an uncut sheet of this deck here.
