1972 Alabama Playing Cards
The deck of 1972 Alabama playing cards contains pictures of 51 players and Coach Bear Bryant. The jokers picture Alabama's Denny Stadium and Memorial Coliseum. The key card in the deck is a pre-rookie card of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Hannah. Many of the players in the 1972 deck appeared again in the deck of 1973 Alabama playing cards.
Alabama was undefeated in 1972 until the last game of the regular season, the famous "Punt Bama Punt" game against Auburn. In that game, Auburn's Bill Newton blocked two Greg Gantt punts in the fourth quarter. David Langner returned both of the blocked punts for touchdowns, and Auburn won 17-16. Alabama lost again in the Cotton Bowl, 17-13 to Texas.
