1967 Royal Castle Dolphins Football Cards
1967 Royal Castle Dolphins cards were issued by Royal Castle restaurants in the Miami area. There are 28 cards in the set: 26 players, Coach George Wilson, and a "Jr. Dolphin" card. The cards are about 4 1/4 by 3 inches, and they are printed on thin cardboard. Eleven of the cards are short prints, and are far scarcer than the others. The backs of the cards say that two cards were made available each week of the season. The key card in the set is a pre-rookie card of Bob Griese.
According to an article in the Miami Herald (now unavailable), Royal Castle restaurants were modeled after White Castle, and at one time there were at least 185 Royal Castles in the Miami area. Only one restaurant remains in operation; burgerbeast.com has pictures of it.
The Royal Castle cards are not numbered, so I have listed the players in alphabetical order. The Jr. Dolphin card does not appear in the price guides, so I called it card #28.
I am always in the market for the short prints in this set. If you have one you would like to sell, please send me an email.
