1926 Spalding Champions Football Cards
The 1926 Spalding Champions set, sometimes called the 1926 Sports Company of America set, contains 210 cards. It is a multi-sport set, with sports as diverse as balloon racing, surfcasting, and checkers. Fourteen of the cards picture football players; they are pictured below. Among the fourteen are pre-rookie cards of Bennie Friedman and Ernie Nevers, both Hall of Famers, whose generally accepted rookie cards appear in the 1955 Topps All-American set. I have added the Friedman and Nevers cards to the Gallery's pre-rookie card page. Another Spalding card, Bo McMillin, has two errors: his name is misspelled "McMillan," and the player on the card is actually someone else. You can see a photo of the real Bo McMillin on the Gallery's Mistaken Identities page.
