Jones was the first Black player to win the Outland Trophy. He also placed tenth in voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1955. (See the Gallery's page of football cards of Heisman candidates.) Jones died in a plane crash with four members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders: Mel Becket, Mario DeMarco, Ray Syrnyk, and Gordon Sturtridge.
