Happy 70th birthday to Mike Wood! Wood was a punter and kicker for five seasons in the NFL: 1978 with the Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Cardinals, 1979 with the Cardinals and San Diego Chargers, 1980 with the Chargers, and 1981 and 1982 with the Baltimore Colts. In 1978, he had the NFL’s longest punt, an 81-yarder.
Wood threw two passes during his NFL career. He completed both of them, one for a touchdown, and he finished his career with a 158.3 career passer rating. Not too shabby!
Today’s card of the day is Wood’s rookie card, a 1979 Topps. He also appeared on a 1980 Topps football card.
