Happy 75th birthday to Duane Carrell! Carrell was a punter for four seasons in the WFL and NFL. He moved around a lot: In 1974 he started the season with the WFL’s Jacksonville Sharks and finished it with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. In 1975 he played for the Los Angeles Rams, and in 1976 he played for the New York Jets. He played the first two games of 1977 with the Jets and finished the season with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Prior to his pro career, Carrell played college football for Florida State University.
Today’s card of the day is Carrell’s rookie card, a 1976 Topps. The card pictures him with the Rams, but he played for the Jets in 1976. He also appeared on Topps cards in 1977 and 1978, though he did not play in 1978.
