Happy 75th birthday to Don McCauley! McCauley played running back from 1971 to 1981 with the Baltimore Colts. He excelled at catching passes out of the backfield, gaining 3026 yards receiving versus 2627 yards rushing over his eleven-year career.
Prior to his professional career, McCauley starred at the University of North Carolina. In 1970, he gained 1720 yards rushing, breaking the the NCAA season record held by O.J. Simpson. He finished ninth in voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1970 (see the Gallery’s Heisman Trophy candidates page), and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
