Steve Smith, who played defensive end and offensive tackle in the NFL, is celebrating his 80th birthday today. Smith played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1966, the Minnesota Vikings from 1968 to 1970, and the Philadelphia Eagles from 1971 to 1974. He played on the 1969 Vikings team that lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl IV.
Smith’s son, Brady Smith, also played in the NFL: he was a defensive end for ten seasons with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.
Today’s card of the day is Steve Smith’s 1973 Topps card. It appears that Topps airbrushed him into a green jersey, though he had already been with the Eagles for two years. He also appeared on a 1972 Sunoco Stamp with the Eagles.
Happy birthday, Mr. Smith!
