Happy 80th birthday to Bruce Van Dyke! Van Dyke played guard for eleven seasons in the NFL: 1966 with the Philadelphia Eagles, 1967 to 1973 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and 1974 to 1976 with the Green Bay Packers. He played on the Steelers’ playoff teams of 1972 and 1973, and he made the Pro Bowl in 1973.
Van Dyke attended the University of Missouri, where he played on both the offensive and defensive lines under coach Dan Devine. He would play for Devine again with the Packers.
Today’s card of the day is Van Dyke’s rookie card, a 1973 Topps. He also appeared on a few other cards, my favorite being a 1968 KDKA Steelers card of Van Dyke and his fellow guards.
