Tom McNeill, a punter for seven seasons in the NFL, passed away on September 21. He was 81. McNeill played for the New Orleans Saints from 1967 to 1969, the Minnesota Vikings in 1970, and the Philadelphia Eagles from 1971 to 1973. He was an original New Orleans Saint, signed by the team as an undrafted free agent in 1967.
McNeill had the longest punt in the NFL in 1969, an 81-yarder. 81 yards is still the Saints’ team record.
Prior to his pro career, McNeill played college football at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Today’s card of the day is McNeill’s rookie card, a 1972 Topps. It is one of the tough third-series cards in the 1972 Topps set. He also appeared on a 1974 Topps card, though he did not play in 1974.
