Mike Montgomery is celebrating his 75th birthday today. Montgomery played running back and wide receiver for four seasons in the NFL: 1971 with the San Diego Chargers, 1972 and 1973 with the Dallas Cowboys, and 1974 with the Houston Oilers. Statistically, his best season was 1971, when he gained 587 yards from scrimmage for the Chargers. He played on two playoff teams: the 1972 and 1973 Cowboys.
Today’s card of the day is Montgomery’s 1972 Sunoco Stamp. The stamp pictures him with the Chargers, but the Chargers traded him to the Cowboys before the start of the 1972 season. As far as I know, he never appeared on a regular issue football card.
Happy birthday, Mr. Montgomery!
