Happy 80th birthday to Martin Baccaglio! Baccaglio played defensive end for three seasons in the AFL and NFL. He started the 1968 season with the San Diego Chargers and finished it with the Cincinnati Bengals, and he remained with the Bengals in 1969 and 1970. He played in the Bengals’ first-ever playoff game, a loss to the Baltimore Colts in 1970.
Baccaglio played college football at San Jose State University.
I was curious about the name “Baccaglio,” and I found that it means “cod” in Italian. So Baccaglio’s first name is a bird, and his last name is a fish! I wonder if there are other players whose names are two animals?
Today’s card of the day is Baccaglio’s 1970 Topps card. As far as I know, it is his only appearance on a regular issue card.
