Happy 85th birthday to Don Jonas! Jonas appeared in one game with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1962, then played 7 years in semi-pro leagues before moving to the Canadian Football League. He spent 5 seasons in the CFL, playing for 3 different teams: the Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was named MVP of the Atlantic Coast League in 1963; the Continental Football League in 1966, 1967, and 1968; and the CFL in 1971.
This is Jonas’s 1969 Orlando Panthers card. The Panthers played in the Continental Football League from 1966 to 1969 and won the league championship twice. Eight 1969 Orlando Panthers cards are shown in the Gallery, but I suspect there are more. If you know of others, or if you have any you’d like to sell, send me an email.
Since Jonas played exactly one game in the NFL, he is included on the Gallery’s Cups of Coffee page. You can see his CFL cards in the Gallery, as well.
