Happy 80th birthday to Leroy Mitchell! Mitchell played defensive back for eight seasons in the AFL, NFL, and WFL: 1967 and 1968 for the Boston Patriots, 1969 and 1970 for the Houston Oilers, 1971 to 1973 for the Denver Broncos, and 1974 for the Portland Storm. His best year was 1968, when he intercepted seven passes and was named an AFL Eastern Division All-Star.
Mitchell played college football at Texas Southern University. There is a recent “Have You Met?” interview with him on the Spotlight Colorado web site.
Today’s card of the day is Mitchell’s rookie card, a 1968 Topps. He also appeared on a few more cards and stamps.
