One-by-one, here and there, I have been making the 1968 Topps Test Team Photos cards in the Gallery interactive. That means entering the players’ names, mapping their locations on the card, and allowing the user (that’s you!) to run their cursor over the card to see who each player is. This week I did the Philadelphia Eagles card. Try it!
I like team cards because they always include players who never appeared on a regular issue card. So when a player’s niece asks me if I have any cards of her uncle, I can say no, but he did appear on this team card. The niece is usually happy with that.
The Eagles team card includes around 15 players who never appeared on cards of their own. It also includes Benjy Dial, who played in only one NFL game, but who did later appear on a Canadian Football League card. You can see that card on the Gallery’s Cups of Coffee page, along with numerous other players who played in exactly one National Football League, American Football League, or All-America Football Conference game.
Like all the 1968 Topps Test Team Photos cards, the Eagles card pictures the 1967 team. The team finished 6-7-1 in 1967 and 2-12 in 1968. Perhaps they should have hung on to Benjy Dial.
For a list of the Gallery’s other interactive team cards, see–you guessed it!–the Interactive Team Cards page.
