Happy 85th birthday to Roland “Ron” McDole! McDole played defensive end for 18 seasons in the AFL and NFL: 1961 for the St. Louis Cardinals, 1962 for the Houston Oilers, 1963 to 1970 for the Buffalo Bills, and 1971 to 1978 for the Washington Redskins. He was a starter for 15 of those 18 seasons.
McDole played on nine playoff teams with Buffalo and Washington. He was a member of the Bills teams that won the AFL Championship in 1964 and 1965, and of the Redskins team that lost to the undefeated Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VII. Surprisingly, he is not a member of the Bills Wall of Fame or Commanders (formerly Redskins) Ring of Fame.
Prior to his pro career, McDole played college football at the University of Nebraska.
Today’s card of the day is McDole’s rookie card, a 1965 Topps. He also appeared on numerous other cards and stamps.
