Happy 85th birthday to Jerry Tarr! Tarr played wide receiver in 1962 for the AFL’s Denver Broncos. He caught eight passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. One of the touchdowns was on a 97-yard reception from George Shaw.
Tarr played college football at the University of Oregon, where he also starred in track. In 1962, he, Mike Gaechter, Harry Jerome, and Mel Renfro tied the world record in the 4×110 yard relay, with a time of 40 seconds. (Gaechter and Renfro also went on to play pro football.) Tarr also won the NCAA title in the high hurdles in 1961 and 1962.
Today’s card of the day is Tarr’s 1963 Fleer card. He did not play in 1963, however. To my knowledge, it is his only appearance on a card.
