Today’s card of the day is a 1962 Post CFL card of Roger Nelson. Nelson played guard and tackle for thirteen seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos–now the Edmonton Elks. He was a member of the Edmonton teams that won the Grey Cup in 1954 and 1956. Nelson was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman in 1959, and he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1986.
Nelson’s son and grandson also played professional football. His son, Mark Nelson, played for the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders–and then went on to a long coaching career. His grandson, Kyle Nelson, played in both the CFL and NFL.
Roger Nelson appeared on several other CFL cards, as well. You can see them all in the Gallery.
