Today’s card of the day is a 1939 Washington Redskins Matchbook of Andy Farkas. Farkas played eight seasons in the NFL: 1938 to 1944 with the Redskins, and 1945 with the Detroit Lions. He led the NFL with six rushing touchdowns in 1938, and with 984 yards from scrimmage and 68 points in 1939. He played in three NFL Championship games with the Redskins, with the Redskins winning one, in 1942.
Farkas was the first NFL player to catch a 99-yard touchdown pass; he did it in a 1939 game on a throw from Frank Filchock. That set an NFL record that can never be broken, though it has been tied twelve times.
Farkas’s matchbook is one of twenty in the set. You can see the full set of 1939 Redskins Matchbooks in the Gallery.

I guess when it’s a record like that, it’s best to be the first to do it, as nobody is gonna remember who was #5 or #9 on the list.
