Paterno never played professional football, but he played quarterback and defensive back at Brown University. He still shares the Brown record for career interceptions, with 14. He was the head coach at Penn State for 46 seasons, 1966 to 2011, and he holds the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision record for most wins, with 409.
